What couples sex therapy is
Sex therapy for couples is talk therapy focused on the sexual and emotional side of your relationship. It is not physical, and nothing happens in a session that you have not chosen to discuss.
Healing Hearts Counseling is a private practice in Murray, Utah. We see couples in person or by secure video anywhere in Utah. Dr. Mallorie Sorce, our founder, is a licensed marriage and family therapist and sexologist who is also a certified Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) therapist.
What couples bring to sex therapy
- One partner wants sex more or less often than the other
- Pain, anxiety or avoidance around sex
- Sex that feels like a performance or a chore, or has stopped altogether
- Closeness after a baby, illness, a move or another big change
- Rebuilding intimacy and trust after betrayal
- Different comfort levels, values or expectations, including around faith or upbringing
- Wanting to talk about sex without it turning into a fight
Our approach
We combine sex therapy with Emotionally Focused Therapy, an attachment-based way of working. Sexual difficulties are rarely only about sex. Often a repeating pattern, such as one partner pursuing and the other withdrawing, sits underneath.
Working on that pattern and on the sexual concern together is how we try to rebuild both closeness and desire. Care is confidential and LGBTQ+ affirming, and open to all relationship types.

Common questions
Is couples sex therapy physical?
No. It is conversation, and you may choose to try guided exercises at home. There is no physical contact in sessions.
Do we both have to come?
Couples work goes best with both partners. If your partner is not ready, you are welcome to start with an individual session.
Is it confidential?
Yes, with a few legal exceptions such as safety concerns or abuse disclosures.
Can we do it online?
Yes. Telehealth works anywhere in Utah, and sessions can move between in person and video without changing therapists.
